UFC 172 - Who will win?

Thursday, April 24
UFC 172 Preview - By Adam CurleyJon Jones ©  vs Glover Teixeira #2‘ Bones’ returns to the Octagon for the first time since THAT fight with Alexander Gustaffson in September, and he’ll no doubt want to silence his doubters. Plenty of questions came from the fight-of-the-year contender, the biggest one being what type of effect it had on the champ.Teixeira’s record suggests he’s a real threat to the champion’s title reign, but let’s not forget Ryan Bader had him in trouble just moments before the Brazilian ended their fight with some bombs of his own, and he’s never come close to meeting anyone of Jones’ ability. The challenger won’t be easy to put away and will have his moments early, but I expect Jones to show why pound-for-pound, he’s the best fighter on the planet. Prediction: Jones by TKO round 3.Phil Davis #3 vs Anthony Johnson #14 Hopefully the return of ‘Rumble’ marks the end of his weight issues, because he’s been destroying opponents outside the UFC and when he’s focused, can be as dangerous as they come. His biggest worry is keeping Davis at bay long enough to land some big shots, and I don’t think he can. I expect ‘Mr. Wonderful’ to do what he does best, he’ll get Johnson to the ground and grind out a decision.Prediction: Davis by unanimous decision.Luke Rockhold #5 vs Tim Boetsch #13 Not a lot of love for Boetsch in this one, in his last three fights he’s lost to Costas Philippou and Mark Munoz, and somehow grabbed a split decision over CB Dollaway in a horrible judge’s call. Rockhold on the other hand looked slick in disposing of Philippou by TKO in the first round of his last outing, and I think the former Strikeforce champ has too many weapons for ‘The Barbarian’.Prediction: Rockhold by TKO round 1.Jim Miller #9 vs Yancy Medeiros Miller is looking for his first winning streak since a loss to Benson Henderson in 2011 halted his run of seven straight victories, and he shouldn’t have too much trouble here against the Hawaiian. Medeiros took the fight at late notice when an injury forced Bobby Green off the main card, so look for the more experienced Miller to take it to the ground early where he’ll be too classy for his younger opponent.Prediction: Miller by submission round 1.Max Holloway vs Andre Fili Two young guns kick off the main card in what looks a great way to begin the pay-per-view. ‘Touchy’ Fili has the best nickname going around and is another Team Alpha Male prospect coming out of Sacramento, and I think this might give him the edge over the Hawaiian. Holloway was impressive in Singapore when he finished the now-departed Will Chope, but I’m going with Fili.Prediction: Fili by TKO round 2.
